The John William Jackson Fund in the Idaho Community Foundation announces it will award a total of $130,250 at its 11th Annual Grant Awards Ceremony

  Boise, Idaho – April 7, 2014

Virgi Blaine, Vice President, Community Relations, announced today the John William Jackson Fund will award 30 deserving non-profits $130,250, a $10,250 increase from last year, at its 11th Annual Grant Awards Ceremony.  The awards ceremony will be dedicated in remembrance of a dear friend of the Fund, Velma V. Morrison.  The event will take place Thursday, April 10th , 6:00 p.m. at Lyle Pearson’s Mercedes-Benz Showroom.

Despite a sluggish economy, the Fund’s operating unit, the Idaho Youth Education Recycling Partnership (iYERP) recorded record metal recycling revenue  and contributed to the Fund $103,000 in 2013.  The revenue increase resulted from the collaborative efforts of iYERP partners generating over one millions pounds of mixed metal which was diverted from the local landfill.

The breakdown of the grant awards are a follows:  Academic Scholarships ($50,500); Health Education Scholarships ($34,000): Performing Arts ($28,600); Musical Instrument Purchase Program ($9150) and Outdoor Sports ($8000).

“The Fund has an unique business model for securing much needed funds for education in Idaho.” stated Molly Conein, Vice President, Marketing.  “If the Fund is successful in attracting additional volunteers with fundraising expertise, we will launch two new initiatives:  Student Health Education and High Technology later this year.”
